Groundwork

Groundwork

I'm a disruptor. As I work, I notice inefficiencies, collaborate on gaps, and create optimizations through strategic decision-making and refined workflows. This is where my passion truly lies; I love the puzzle-like, systems-based journey of building on groundwork. Here is just one of many examples of the groundwork exploration I have spearheaded.

Color system

Our current color palette consists of two primary colors, four secondary colors, and eight tertiary colors. For our digital design system and effective data visualization, we found we needed to tonally expand our colors into scales for richer layering while maintaining AA accessibility compliance.

Our color system is applied to three sister organizations, so simple ideas become incredibly complex when considering the impacts holistically.

Gaps

Gap 1: Four of our eight tertiary colors are inaccessible on a white background.

Gap 2: Our eight tertiary colors are based in pairs; we have four main colors with a light and dark coupling each. These colors are not tonally expandable.

Gap 3: We have no defined semantic colors.

Gap 4: Our data visualization guidelines only accommodate a limited categorical palette.

Solution

I developed a system that embeds our existing palette into a functional palette that can keep up with the evolving needs of our business.
